Guidelines for Managing the Patient With Intellectual Disability in Accident and Emergency

Conversations regarding health and healthcare are often new and uncomfortable for many patients. They can be especially scary for patients who have intellectual disabilities. In order to ensure that the healthcare we provide is accessible to everyone, providers should know how to treat patients with intellectual disabilities. This resource provides some guidelines to do so. While the resource is focused on A&E (accidents and emergencies), the guidelines for section 1: Assessment are relevant to any healthcare encounter.
